York United signs Canadian forward Ronan Kratt
York United FC can confirm the signing of Canadian forward Ronan Kratt.
The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal through 2023, with a club option for 2024 and will officially join on July 1st, following the end of his current contract. He will be available for selection for The Nine Stripes’ local derby with Forge FC on Friday 8th July, once the Canadian transfer window has opened and his International Transfer Certificate has been processed.
Most recently, Kratt – an Ottawa native, has been in Germany with SSV Ulm 1846 and made 19 appearances in all competitions for the Under-19 side, scoring four times in the Bundesliga South/Southwest.
His performances there ensured he was included in the Canada Under-20 setup and he was named in the provisional squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Championship.
Prior to his move to Europe, Kratt spent two seasons at the Barca Residency Academy in Arizona while both the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa South United were also instrumental in his development.
“Ronan is a very talented player and one that has been involved with Canada’s U-20 squad already, remaining on standby for the CONCACAF tournament right now,” says Angus McNab, York United FC’s President/CEO & GM.
“He’s ready to play senior football after a very successful year in Germany and we are glad to give him that opportunity. Other CPL and Bundesliga clubs were interested in signing him but the club’s commitment to playing young Canadians has shone through once again and we are delighted he’s chosen York United and trusted us with the next steps in his journey.”
The club can also confirm the signing of 18-year-old North Toronto Nitros and former TFC Academy midfielder Aiden Hugo to a development permit while, after being involved in the squad over the past number of weeks, Arjan Khela moves on.
“I’d like to thank CPL HQ and the football department – particularly Aaron Nielsen – for their assistance in scouting across League1 Ontario,” McNab says.
“Aaron is a valuable resource to all clubs across his domestic scouting for both League1 Canada and the U Sports competitions. We’ve terminated Arjan’s permit as it’s now time for him to return back to his age group and put into practice what he’s learned from his spell with our group. This is exactly how we should use these roster spots as it’s about bringing in some talented players, like Arjan, and then seeing what they need to work on.”
