Canada Soccer announced Monday that a training camp will be held in Toronto this month for select North America-based players ahead of the men’s national team’s Concacaf Nations League quarter-final tie with Suriname. Among the group of 19 players invited to train under Jesse Marsch is, for the first time, York United attacker Shola Jimoh.
Jimoh, 16, had an outstanding breakout year in the Canadian Premier League, scoring four goals with two assists — including one of each in the CPL quarter-final against Atlético Ottawa. Now, he’ll have the chance to train alongside several key national team regulars, including Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea and Maxime Crépeau.
Though born in England, Jimoh grew up primarily in Brampton, Ont. and represented Canada at the U-15 level in 2023.
The group of 19 players will convene in Toronto next week before the men’s national team squad is selected. Marsch’s chosen roster will then meet up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for camp before heading to Suriname for the first leg of the quarter-final. They’ll then return to Toronto for the second leg at BMO Field, on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
The full group of players invited to the training camp in Toronto includes six players who were part of the most recent full national team squad. It also includes three former Canadian Premier League players: goalkeepers Jonathan Sirois and James Pantemis (both formerly of Valour FC), and defender Joel Waterman (formerly Cavalry FC).
