Former York United and Cavalry FC central defender Dominick Zator has signed with Polish top-flight club Korona Kielce.

The 28-year-old was a free agent after spending this past season with York United. In 2022, he became the fourth player in league history to reach 100 games played for CPL clubs, split between Cavalry and York. He appeared in all 28 matches for the Nine Stripes, and was a nominee for the league’s inaugural Defender of the Year award.

“Dom has been a fantastic member of the squad for the last two years,” said Angus McNab, York United FC’s CEO/President and GM in a statement from the club. “We knew when he came to our club that he had ambitions to play overseas and we’ve always tried to support him here. I’m very happy for Dom but, at the same time, I’m gutted to lose both the player and the person.”

Zator has also been previously called up to the Canadian men’s national team, in November 2019, although did not appear in a Nations League match against the United States.

The Calgary, Alberta native joins a Korona Kielce side that is fighting a relegation battle in Poland, currently sitting 17th in the 18-team league. Zator previously spent time in Europe in 2021 with Vasalunds IF in Sweden, on loan from York, making five appearances.

Korona Kielce have had some notable Canadian internationals play for them in the past, including Milan Borjan on loan during the 2017 season, and current Cavalry FC midfielder Charlie Trafford.

Zator is just the latest Canadian Premier League player to make a move to Europe in 2022, joining former teammate Diyaeddine Abzi (Pau FC in France), Victor Loturi and William Akio (Ross County in Scotland) and Alejandro Diaz (Sogndal in Norway).
