Theo Bair scores hat trick to continue a strong start to life with Lausanne-Sport - ICYMI

Theo Bair has gotten off to a fantastic start to life at his new club, Lausanne-Sport, as he looks to make the most of a loan to the Swiss side from parent club Auxerre.
After opening his account in a cup match vs. fourth-tier side FC Concordia Basel at the end of September, Bair kicked off October with a bang.
First, he scored his first European goal on his European debut, finding the net in Lausanne’s 3-0 win vs. Breidablik in UEFA Conference League action last Thursday, helping them get off to a winning start to their campaign in that competition.

Then, Bair one-upped himself a few days later, as he scored a hat trick in a 5-0 win vs. BSC Young Boys, who finished third place in the Swiss League last year, and are currently in the Europa League.
That was a massive win for Lausanne, too, who had started the year with just one win in their first seven matches, putting the pressure on them to find another victory before the international break.
Certainly, they can thank the play of Bair for that win, as he didn’t just score three goals, but he scored three pretty big ones - he had goals #1, #2 and #3 of the game for his side on the day.

Yet, when looking at the goals themselves, there’s a lot to like with them - the first was an easy finish into an empty goal after a nice unselfish play from his teammate, but his second goal came after a nice run in behind and a good 1v1, while the third was a rocket of a shot with his left foot from distance.

After scoring a deft chip against Breidablik, Bair showed good variety in each of his goals, which is exactly what he’s capable of doing as a striker. Despite his large frame, he’s always had a knack for having a soft touch around the goal, which can make him a tough player to defend.

Certainly, he gave Young Boys a lot to deal with in this game, as he had seven shots (worth 1.18 xG) and completed four dribbles, also taking eight touches inside the box, doing well to get to the right areas of the pitch.
To Bair’s credit, though, he’s done that since getting to Switzerland - he’s averaged 3.31 shots, 0.63 xG, 2.02 dribbles and 6.81 touches in the box per 90 minutes in the six games he’s played with his new club, proving to be a lively presence up front.

Because of that, while he didn’t score in his first two games, it felt like a matter of time before he’d hit the ground running, and that he now has five goals in his last three games is a sign of how things are coming together for him.
Now, he’ll hope that this international break doesn’t derail his momentum, as he looks ahead to a crucial period. Having missed out on the latest CanMNT squad after being included in the September window, he could push his way back into the fold for the November window with a strong stretch of play the rest of October.
After a quiet season in France, where he scored just twice in 32 appearances for Auxerre after joining from Scottish side Motherwell, he’s looking a lot more like the forward who had 15 goals and six assists in his final season in Scotland, helping him earn that Ligue 1 move and a few CanMNT calls.
That’s of benefit to Lausanne, so look for them to continue to push Bair to new heights as they try and recover from their slow start to their Swiss League campaign while also navigating Conference League play.
