Canada Soccer announced on Monday that the Canadian women’s national team will play a pair of friendlies against Argentina in British Columbia next month. Vancouver’s BC Place is set to host the first game on Friday, April 4, before the teams head to Vancouver Island and Langford’s Starlight Stadium on Tuesday, April 8.
They will be Casey Stoney’s first matches on Canadian soil since being named national team head coach earlier this year.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in Canada and experiencing the support of our fans,” said Stoney in a press release. “These matches aren’t just friendlies; they’re stepping stones for our future. Each game gives us an opportunity to build on our standards, our style of play, and our growing belief as a team.”
The two nations have met six times over the years, with Canada unbeaten in that span. The most recent meeting was in October 2022, where a Vanesa Santana own goal and a strike from Cloé Lacasse saw Canada take a 2-0 victory in Cadiz, Spain. They also met at the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, with Sarah Stratigakis scoring a stoppage time goal in a 1-0 victory for Les Rouges.
Argentina is currently ranked 33rd in the world, and these matches will be part of their preparation for the 2025 Copa América Femenina this summer. They finished third at the most recent edition in 2022, matching their result four years earlier.
Canada, meanwhile, won’t play any competitive matches in 2025 but will have an opportunity to play another strong side as Stoney looks to develop the team on and off the pitch. Canada won the 2025 Pinatar Cup in February, kicking off their year with a draw against China and wins over Mexico and Chinese Taipei to clinch the invitational tournament.
Both April friendlies will air live on OneSoccer in Canada.
