RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: York United vs. Valour FC | July 13, 2025

York United are unbeaten in four straight CPL games, as they fought from a goal down to beat Valour FC 3-2 on Sunday night at York Lions Stadium.

For a second straight league match, Valour struck first on the road. Diogo Ressurreição played a good pass from the left wing toward the top of the box, where Kianz Froese directed a shot toward goal. York blocked that attempt, but it bounced out to Kian Williams at the top of the area, where he laced an inch-perfect shot between York's defenders and into the top corner to give Valour a lead in the 22nd minute.

However, Valour's lead would not last to halftime. On the edge of stoppage time, Adonijah Reid got on the end of a through ball and drove toward goal, as Valour keeper Jonathan Viscosi came off his line to swipe at the ball. Reid jumped over the rushing keeper but lost his footing on the way down, and the referee awarded York a penalty.

Julian Altobelli scored the spot kick clinically, burying it to his right despite Viscosi diving the right way.

A couple of minutes later, the tide had shifted entirely as York scored another in quick succession. Kembo Kibato played forward and found Altobelli alongside the Valour defence, where Altobelli shot quickly. Viscosi saved his attempt, but it landed in the path of an on-rushing Steffen Yeates, who managed to knock it into the net and give York a stunning 2-1 lead going into halftime.

York's onslaught continued almost immediately after halftime. Orlando Botello picked up the ball on the left flank and whipped a good cross straight to the head of Adonijah Reid, who nodded it home and gave York a 3-1 lead.

However, the visitors had a quick response. Shortly after the hour mark, the ball popped at the top of the box to halftime substitute Myles Morgan, who hit an outrageous strike from the edge of the area into the net to give Valour a lifeline.

After that scare, however, York locked the game down more comprehensively, holding onto the ball to prevent Valour from getting close to an equalizer.

Seeing out the 3-2 win, York kept their firm grasp on the fifth and final playoff spot in the CPL, remaining six points clear of the line. Valour, meanwhile, now find themselves 10 points behind the Nine Stripes for that last spot.
