York United and Atlético Ottawa battled through hot, humid conditions in Toronto on Sunday but neither side managed to find the goal, as they took a point each from a 0-0 draw at York Lions Stadium.

York had a handful of decent chances in the first half, threatening the Ottawa goal with several well-delivered set-pieces. In the gruelling conditions, neither side was playing at a particularly high tempo, though York did a better job getting into the opposing half. They pushed the ball forward with a series of long passes, attempting to find space in a well-organized Ottawa defence.

However, the sides went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0, neither of them being able to find an effective way through to the goal.

Atleti's first good chance came just moments after the second half started, as Ballou Tabla found his way into the box and was played in on goal, but York keeper Ivan Pavela bravely claimed the ball before Tabla could get another touch to score. Five minutes later, Pavela made another pair of excellent saves, both of them on Sam Salter who tried his luck from distance, but couldn't beat the York shot-stopper.

The visitors continued peppering York's penalty area as the second half progressed, and seemed to have a little more energy late in the game, but still neither team managed to find any open space to create good shooting opportunities.

Though both sides had their looks at goal in the final few minutes, ultimately neither could produce the moment of magic they needed in a game like this, and the game ended scoreless.

A point helps keep Atlético Ottawa atop the table, and it bumps York up to 15 points on the season, which means they too will end matchweek 12 in the playoff picture. They're in fifth place, with their sights set on pushing further up the standings.
