Valour FC and York United were unable to find a breakthrough in a hard-fought battle, settling for a 0-0 draw at Princess Auto Stadium on Sunday.

While both won't be frustrated with picking one point, both will feel frustrated not to grab all three, as York missed a chance to provisionally climb into third place in the table, while Valour had an opportunity to close the gap between them and fifth-place Halifax to nine points.

Yet, it was that kind of match - both teams struggled to break the other down, and that started early on.

In the first half, neither team was able to find much of an offensive breakthrough, as they were only able to muster up some half-chances.

For Valour, they had a pair of shots from distance from Myles Morgan and Bruno Figueiredo, but neither reached the target. Meanwhile, with York, they had better luck in terms of reaching Valour's box, firing three out of five shots from close range, but Julian Altobelli had one dangerous left-footed shot blocked before slicing a right-footed shot well over the goal.

York did have a great chance to score in the 30th minute, as Max Ferrari found Kembo Kibato with a great delivery into the box, but Kibato's header flew wide of the target.

On the other side of the break, this game remained cagey, as both teams were unable to break down the other in chase of the game's first goal. As a result, the first good opportunity of the half didn't come until the 69th minute, where Morgan had a decent shot from distance, one that caused a little bit of discomfort for York goalkeeper, Diego Urtiaga.

Then, in the 75th minute, York came close to scoring, as Shaan Hundal almost picked out Kibato for what would've been an easy finish into an empty net, but the pass was just out of reach for the York midfielder.

At the other end, Valour continued to generate set-piece opportunities and nearly scored on one of them in the 90th minute, but Kelsey Egwu was unable to send his header on target after a great ball from Themi Antonoglou.

From there, the final whistle would blow soon after, as neither team was able to find a late breakthrough, one that could've been massive for either side, instead leaving them to share the spoils.
