RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: Valour FC vs. Cavalry FC | July 20, 2025
Cavalry FC rounded off matchday 15 of the Canadian Premier League with a dramatic victory, as they beat Valour 2-1 at Princess Auto Stadium on Sunday.
After entering stoppage time tied at 1-1, Cavalry secured the victory via a 93rd-minute winner from Sergio Camargo, who earned his team three crucial points with his late heroics. With that victory, it's pushed Cavalry up to third in the table, too, while keeping Valour in a tie for last place with eight points.
Returning to the match, Safwane Mlah nearly had the hosts in front after just two minutes, as he did well to open up space for a dangerous shot, but Cavalry's Marco Carducci got down and palmed away Mlah's powerful attempt.
Then, a few minutes later, Kianz Froese found Kian Williams with a clever ball over the top, but the Valour striker couldn't get a shot off, as Cavalry's Levi Laing just got back in time to throw him off from generating a shot attempt.
Ali Musse had Cavalry's first big chance of the game in the 21st minute, as Tobias Warschewski found him in a great position with a probing through ball in behind, but Musse's right-footed shot sailed well over the crossbar.
Musse almost then played provider in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, as he found Max Piepgrass with a nice cutback, but Piepgrass's shot would be easily saved by Valour's Jonathan Viscosi.
On the other side of the break, Cavalry had a good look from a corner, as Fraser Aird found Callum Montgomery at the back post, but his header would sail into Viscosi's waiting arms.
That connection would pay dividends for Cavalry not long after that, however. This time, Aird whipped in a free kick from the other side, and he'd find Montgomery once again, and the Cavalry centre back would do the rest with a perfect header to put his team up 1-0 in the 51st minute.
Valour nearly had a perfect response in the 63rd minute, as they almost found a quick equalizer. Much like Cavalry, they'd find that joy on a wide free kick, as Kelsey Egwu headed a good delivery across goal, but Gianfranco Facchineri slammed his shot off the wrong side of the crossbar from close range despite seemingly having the entire net to shoot at.
Eventually, Valour would find that equalizer in the 82nd minute, and it'd come off a moment of magic from Bruno Figueiredo, who had just come onto the field minutes earlier. After picking up the ball in midfield, he'd dance through a couple of Cavalry defenders, putting one to the floor with a fake shot, opening up enough room to power a shot above the head of goalkeeper Marco Carducci, who was left powerless to stop Valour's tying goal.
Cavalry almost regained their lead in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, as Musse stepped up to take a long-range free kick, but his shot curled off the post and stayed out to keep things tied at 1-1, denying his team of a dramatic late winner.
He wouldn't come to rue that miss, however, as his team found that winner not even a minute later. There, Tom Field did well to win a ball in midfield, and immediately found Sergio Camargo with a nice through ball, and Camargo did the rest with a composed finish after rounding Viscosi to put his team up in the 93rd minute.
From there, his team would do well to hold onto that lead, allowing them to pick up a crucial road victory, one that allowed them to push up the table with the three points they gained.
