RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: Pacific FC vs. York United | June 14, 2025
York United are back to winning ways in the Canadian Premier League, as they defeated Pacific FC 3-1 at Starlight Stadium on Saturday.
After a long week, one that saw York travel from Calgary to Ottawa for a game in midweek before making the jaunt over to Vancouver Island, York did well to recover from back-to-back losses to pick up their third win in four CPL games, helping cement their fifth-place spot in the table.
Despite how the game ended, however, it didn't take long for Pacific to craft an early chance to start the game, as Yann Toualy floated in a perfect cross after a short corner in the 5th minute, but Emanuel Montejano sent his header just over the crossbar from close range.
At the other end, York almost took the lead in the 11th minute, as a bouncing ball fell to Julian Altobelli inside the box, but the red-hot striker sent his shot wide of the goal despite having all sorts of time to find the back of the net.
Soon after, though, Pacific would open the scoring in spectacular fashion. After a chaotic sequence in the box, the ball fell to Aly Ndom at the edge of the box, and he'd absolutely hammer the ball into the bottom corner with a thunderous shot to put his team up 1-0, snapping his team's four-game goalless drought in the process.
Looking to get back into the game, York came close on a 38th-minute corner, as Riley Ferrazzo found Oswaldo León at the back post, but he glanced his header just wide of the goal.
Then, on the other side of half time, York had another good look from a set-piece, as Orlando Botello whipped in a dangerous ball on a free kick, but Nyal Higgins was unable to keep his header under the crossbar.
Right after that, York had another glorious shot in the 52nd minute, as Luca Accettola lined up a shot from distance, nearly finding the top corner if not for Pacific's Max Anchor, who palmed the shot onto the post.
Luckily for York, however, Accettola's shot would be a bit of a warning attempt, as he wasn't going to miss his next attempt. That came in the 53rd minute, as the ball fell to him just inside the box, and he made the most of that by curling a shot into the top corner to make it 1-1.
Continuing a strong sequence, York almost made it 2-1 in the 57th minute, and it once again came off a set-piece. This time, Massimo Ferrin was the one who delivered it, finding the head of Luke Singh, but his header would be kept out by another fantastic save from Anchor.
That pressure paid off, as York completed their quick turnaround in the 60th minute. There, Kembo Kibato did well to fire a shot from a tight angle, forcing a rebound out of Anchor, who was left powerless as he parried the ball into the path of Ferrazzo, who easily slotted the ball into an empty net to put his team up 2-1.
The York wave didn't stop there, either, as they then added to their lead in the 70th minute. After winning a ball in midfield, Botello decided to have a shot from distance, and he caught his shot perfectly, finding the top corner with a rocket to make it 3-1.
From there, York cruised to victory, doing well to protect their lead so that they could leave Vancouver Island with all three points.
