RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: Cavalry FC vs. Pacific FC (May 17, 2025)
Cavalry FC's winning streak continued on Saturday, as they beat Pacific FC 4-0 at ATCO Field for their third consecutive league victory, pushing themselves up into third place as the Tridents remain without a road win in 2025.
The home side got their party started early. After a few speculative attacks in the opening five minutes, they won a corner which Ali Musse delivered into traffic. Pacific managed to clear the initial attempt, but it dropped at the top of the box for Mihail Gherasimencov, who smashed it into the top corner from distance for his first professional goal.
The rest of the first half carried on in similar fashion, with the Cavs building further momentum. They continued throwing waves of attack at Pacific, although the Tridents did largely limit the hosts to attempts from outside the box and difficult angles.
Pacific grew into the match late in the half, though still struggling to get much of the ball. The sides therefore went into the locker rooms at halftime with a 1-0 scoreline, Cavalry having outshot the visitors eight to three in the opening frame.
The second half strongly resembled the first, as Cavalry -- now playing toward the Foot Soldiers' end -- continued pushing for a second goal.
That tally did eventually arrive around the hour mark. Again, they won a corner and the ball sailed into a dangerous area in the box, where Pacific's Eric Lajeunesse tried to head it away -- but he missed it, and instead the ball struck his outstretched arm. Referee Scott Bowman pointed to the spot, and it was Tobias Warschewski who stepped up to score the penalty, bringing his 2025 tally up to five goals in all competitions.
Pacific's woes continued less than 10 minutes later, as this time it was Emanuel Montejano who crashed into Musse in the box, conceding a second penalty kick to the home side. After Warschewski scored the first, Musse took the ball for this one, and he buried it to his right, putting the match fully out of reach for the Tridents.
With just a few minutes left to play, Pacific's nightmare trip to Calgary got even worse, as Christian Greco-Taylor was given early marching orders, sent off for a second yellow card for a tackle in midfield.
Finally, Nicolas Wähling put the final nail in the Tridents' coffin in the 95th minute, as his free kick from the edge of the box found the top corner to make it 4-0 with the final kick of the game.
