RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: Cavalry FC vs. Forge FC | Oct. 10, 2025

Highlights

Forge FC and Cavalry FC battled to a well-contested, and at times feisty, 1-1 draw in Calgary on Friday night.

The result keeps Forge in control of their destiny in the CPL Shield race heading into the final weekend of the season. There is still a possibility they could win the Shield this weekend should Atlético Ottawa lose to Vancouver FC on Sunday.

Cavalry, meanwhile, now needs only a draw in Langley in their final match of the season to lock up third place.

Sergio Camargo opened the scoring for Cavalry on the night in the 25th minute before Brian Wright replied in the 31st minute from the penalty spot.

With several absences due to international duty and suspensions, including leading scorer Ali Musse, Cavalry made four changes from the side that took to the pitch against Pacific this past Sunday.

In the 5th minute, Forge were handed an early opportunity as Marco Carducci was judged to have handled the ball outside of his box, trying to prevent a corner. Kyle Bekker's short free kick from just outside the left side of the box found Marko Jevremović, but his rocket of a strike was blocked before it could test Carducci.

Forge won a free kick from nearly the exact same position in the 22nd minute, but Bekker curled the ball just wide of the far post. They were left especially frustrated, however, by the fact that it appeared as though the foul was committed inside of the box.

The hosts then had a penalty shout of their own in the 25th minute, as Goteh Ntignee was brought down. The ball fell to Tobias Warschewski, whose deflected strike was blocked just wide.

On the ensuing corner, Cavalry opened the scoring. A corner kick swung in by Warschewski bounced around in the box, before Camargo poked it past Jassem Koleilat.

Forge came back the other way and came close on a free kick in the 28th minute. But Alessandro Hojabrpour's effort was brilliantly denied by Marco Carducci.

In a case of near déja-vu, their resulting corner kick led to the equalizer. Before it could even reach the box, Levi Laing was judged to have brought Alex Achinioti-Jönsson down in the box, conceding a penalty. Wright stepped up to the spot, and smashed home his 10th of the season into the top corner.

Eryk Kobza thought he had given Cavalry the lead again in the 38th minute, when the ball dropped to him at the top of the box and he hit a brilliant strike that looked destined for the bottom corner. Koleilat had other ideas, however, as he stretched out and made one of the best saves so far this season.

Cavalry had one more chance before the half, as they broke forward in transition in first-half stoppage time. Warschewski picked out Camargo at the top of the box, but instead of shooting, he tried to square the ball to Ntignee and Forge were able to get back and break up the chance.

A highly entertaining first half between the two bitter rivals ended 1-1, with a combined 16 fouls and no shortage of drama.

Forge came out the brighter of the two sides to start the second half, putting Cavalry under a lot of pressure and pinning them in their own half for most of the opening 15 minutes. They weren't, however, able to truly turn that into scoring chances.

Rezart Rama had the first real opportunity of the half in the 63rd minute on a clever corner opportunity that worked its way to the Forge full-back. But he sent his low driven strike just wide of Carducci's net.

Both sides chose to make changes around the 68th minute mark, with Harry Paton checking in for Forge, and Caniggia Elva and Nicolas Wähling joining the fray for Cavalry.

The substitutes seemed to swing the tempo in favour of the hosts, who started to build several promising attacks, particularly down the flanks -- with Ntignee creating issues on the left, and Wähling doing the same down the right.

For the final ten minutes, Forge chose to bring in Malik Owalabi-Belewu and Ben Paton, going to a back three as they looked to preserve an important point that would keep them in control of the CPL Shield race.

In the 86th, Cavalry had a great opportunity on a free kick from just outside the top of the box. Warschewski tried to power through the ball, but leaning back sent it well over the bar. That would be his last action of the match as he was replaced late by Ayman Sellouf.

While both sides will never be satisfied with a draw against one another, the point keeps both sides in control of their destiny heading into The Outcome next Saturday.
