Quarter-final matchups set for 2023 Canadian Championship

The quarter-final matchups for the 2023 Canadian Championship are set, with four incredibly intriguing fixtures set to be played on May 9 and 10.

The round will feature a pair of cup final rematches. First and foremost, last year’s Canadian Premier League finalists Forge FC and Atlético Ottawa are set to renew hostilities at Tim Hortons Field on Tuesday, May 9. After winning their first-ever Canadian Championship match this past Wednesday, Ottawa will be looking to avenge their 2022 CPL Final loss to Forge.

The winner of that match will face the victor of a first-ever quarter-final meeting between Toronto FC and CF Montréal in this competition. The bitter MLS rivals have met four times to date in the Canadian Championship final, with Montréal winning three out of the four. That match will also take place on May 9 at Toronto’s BMO Field.

Another bit of CanChamp history will play out on the west coast the following day, featuring League1 BC side TSS Rovers- who became the first semi-pro team in the history of the competition to advance past a pro side on Wednesday night after defeating Valour. They now travel to Vancouver Island, where they will face Pacific FC in a unique B.C. derby, looking to keep their Cinderella run alive.

Also on May 10 comes another tasty rematch. Last year, the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated York United in the semifinals en route to winning their second Canadian Championship title. The two sides will meet again in 2023, but with a notable change, as York will now host the match. They have not lost a home match in their CanChamp history.
