POST-GAME ANALYSIS: New-look CanWNT hold Iceland to goalless draw in 1st of 2 friendlies
The Canadian women's national team held Iceland to a 0-0 draw on Friday in Murcia, Spain, as neither team found the back of the net in this match featuring heavy rotation in the Canadian lineup.
Despite combining well and mustering a couple of decent looks at goal, neither team really tested the other over 90 minutes, with Janine Beckie in particular leading the attack and looking to find opportunities to create, and goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx – the sole Canadian making their debut in this one – keeping the score level with one big save after a bad turnover just outside the box.

Iceland are held off the scoresheet for the first time in over a year. Neither attack really got going beyond a couple of isolated chances.
Was hoping for a few more debuts as well.
Marred by off-field controversy following the dismissal of head coach Bev Priestman due to the dronegate scandal, and shorthanded with a number of star names missing through injury, the CanWNT went into this end-of-year friendly tour in Spain looking to finish 2024 on a high note.
One last friendly against South Korea next Tuesday (available on OneSoccer) will offer them that same opporunity and see this team conclude their calendar year campaign, before all eyes turn to the search for a new head coach.
