Despite enduring a rough first half – Brazil opened the scoring when Jade Rose conceded a penalty, which Tarciane converted past goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan in the 22nd minute to give her team a 1-0 lead – the Canadians shifted tactics for the second 45 minutes, which ultimately paid off as Vanessa Gilles got on the end of a Jessie Fleming free kick to bring the score to 1-1.

Then, Julia Grosso rounded out a successful shootout that saw Canada score 4 of their 5 attempts to Brazil's 3, with Kailen Sheridan making a big stop on Brazil legend Marta.
