WATCH: Iain Hume on CanMNT GK Milan Borjan: "He's getting better with age!"
Headlines will certainly mention the fancy footwork of Tajon Buchanan or the time-defying touch of Jonathan David, but Canada's 2-0 win over Honduras may not have been so if not for a triplet of saves by goalkeeper Milan Borjan.
Sans sweatpants this time around, Borjan, 34, made a number of key stops to prevent Honduras from getting on the board, giving Canada their first taste of victory away to Los Catrachos since 1985.
While Borjan's competition, Maxime Crepeau, earned plaudits for his performances in October, this display has left former Canadian international Iain Hume with little doubt over who deserves to start between the sticks.
"Milan, he's not everybody's cup of tea - I know that," Hume said during the OneSoccer post-game show. "But he is just quality. I think since he moved to Red Star Belgrade, he's really, really set a standard for himself, and it's transferred into the national team. The saves he's made... just everything. He's a leader. You saw it when Atiba wasn't there.
"I think he's getting better and better with age. Thirty-four years old as a 'keeper is nothing. He's probably got another 3, 4 good years left in him, if he keeps himself healthy."
Canada returns to World Cup Qualifying action on January 30, 2022 (3PM ET / 12PM PT), taking on the United States of America at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, ON.
