Canadian Championship

The Vancouver Whitecaps have been crowned the kings of Canada in the battle of the north, having defeated Toronto FC to clinch the Voyageurs Cup in the 2022 Canadian Championship final.

An opening goal by Brian White off an inch-perfect cross by Ryan Gauld gave Vanni Sartini's side the opening advantage, which they held for much of the 2nd half.

But, an outside-footed cross by Federico Bernardeschi met by former Pacific FC defender Lukas MacNaughton brought the match back square, and level after the final whistle.

It would take penalties to separate these two sides, but the Whitecaps didn't even have to break a sweat, going five for five and punishing TFC's Jonathan Osorio, whose effort hit the post as the sole miss of the night.

As a result, the Whitecaps celebrate a huge moment in club history in front of more than 24,000 supporters, and clinch a spot in next year's Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

Congratulations to the Vancouver Whitecaps – the 2022 Canadian Champions!
