HIGHLIGHTS: Forge FC vs. CF Montréal (May 7, 2024) | TELUS Canadian Championship
Forge FC and CF Montréal battled it out to a hard-fought draw in Leg 1 of their 2024 TELUS Canadian Championship quarter-finals series, trading one goal apiece over 90 minutes in front of a packed Tim Hortons Field filled with school children on a Tuesday morning field trip they'll not soon forget.
Bobby Smyrniotis' side will be proud of their effort, particularly in the first half as they controlled the flow and possession of the ball before finding an opening goal in the 31st minute by David Choiniere, who gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about as the elder brother in this sibling rivalry smashed home his shot to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
And, while the Hamilton-based side held onto that lead through half-time, it would quickly be conceded in the second half as Bryce Duke pushed his way through the defensive block to score on the follow-up to his deflected initial shot.
With their equalizer and away goal in hand, Montreal continued to pile on the pressure looking to find another ahead of their return leg, but ultimately – despite a flurry of attacking intent by Forge in the dying embers – the two teams could not be separated over these first 90 minutes of play.
Mathieu Choiniere and CF Montreal now welcome Forge to Quebec for Leg 2 at Stade Saputo on May 22. You can catch that Leg 2 clash in the 2024 TELUS Canadian Championship quarter-finals right here on OneSoccer.
