Canadian Championship

Forge FC has advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 Canadian Championship after defeating Atlético Ottawa in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Tim Hortons Field.

A spectacular opening goal by Kyle Bekker in the second half gave Forge a 1-0 lead, which Ollie Bassett equalized from the penalty spot with minutes left in this CanChamp quarter-final match-up – a rematch of the 2022 CPL Final, though this time in Hamilton.

When it came time for spot kicks? Both teams struggled to bury their efforts, with a series of misses and easy goalkeeper saves frustrating onlookers and footballers alike.

But, eventually in round 6, Forge FC found the crucial go-ahead, and booked their spot in the next round where they will once again square off against Major League Soccer outfit CF Montréal for a third time.
