HIGHLIGHTS: CanMNT vs. Japan in pre-World Cup friendly (Nov. 17, 2022)
Canada wrapped up their final pre-FIFA World Cup preparation friendly vs. Japan with a last-gasp win, giving the team plenty of confidence ahead of their opening match vs. Belgium on Nov. 23.
An early goal by Yuki Soma in the 8th minute stunned Canada, as a chipped pass was clipped past Milan Borjan with an acrobatic stretch, but Canada would show resilience and bounce back by the 21st minute as Steven Vitoria connected with Atiba Hutchinson on a corner kick to equalize from the set piece.
A stale second half saw both sides battle but fail to break each other down, but a 95th-minute penalty buried by Lucas Cavallini with a cheeky panenka proved the difference, as Richie Laryea was brought down in the box in the final seconds of the match.
A 2-1 win takes Canada into the World Cup riding high in confidence, with John Herdman hoping his core players have found key fitness and form ahead of Belgium. Join us on the OneSoccer YouTube channel for our LIVE WATCHALONGS, FIFA 23 streams, and more during Canada's group stage matches.
