HFX Wanderers FC sign Aidan Daniels, Jake Ruby to new contracts
The Halifax Wanderers have signed midfielder Aidan Daniels and defender Jake Ruby to new contracts for the 2023 Canadian Premier League season, with club options for 2024 and 2025.
Daniels, 24, made 23 appearances for the Wanderers across all competitions in 2022, scoring twice. The attacking midfielder from Scarborough, Ontario, joined the Wanderers ahead of the 2022 season following time with Toronto FC (MLS), Ottawa Fury, Colorado Springs Switchbacks and OKC Energy (USL). Daniels has also represented Canada at the youth level from U17 to U23.
“Aidan is a young man I’ve known for some time and an elite midfielder with a high IQ,” Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said. “He is at the stage of being ready to take the next step for us, and we look forward to seeing him on the field and a key part of the squad in 2023.”
Ruby, 22, was selected by the Wanderers in the 2020 CPL – U SPORTS Draft. Initially deployed at right-back, the defender from Vancouver, BC was mainly utilized as a central defender in 2022 and started in each of the Wanderers’ final eight matches of the season.
Since joining the club in 2020, Ruby has made 34 appearances for Halifax across all competitions, scoring once.
“Jake is an adaptable strong defender with high motivation and the versatility to offer tactical matchups which will create advantages for us on the pitch,” Gheisar said. “He’s young — but a veteran of the CPL at his age and will be relied upon for that experience as well.”
