Smith also had a goal and an assist in the semi-final as Arsenal defeated Moroccan side AS FAR by a score of 6-0. Smith is now up to six goals in her first season with the London club, and has her first piece of silverware as well.
Jonathan David's scoring streak continues
Going into this transfer window, there were rumours that it could all be over. David hadn’t scored in 16 consecutive league matches when he panenkaed a penalty right into the hands of the Lecce goalkeeper in a 1-1 draw on January 3. There were already rumours that Juventus were looking for a loan deal, or an early exit, for their new striker.
Since then, however, he has been on fire. On Sunday, he scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-1 win over Parma. It was his fourth goal in the past five league matches, to go with a pair of assists. He also added an assist in the Champions League during that stretch.
With the winter window now in the rearview, and David still at Juventus, it looks as though he has earned the opportunity to continue to lead the line for the club as they chase both a domestic title and continental success.
Flores in top form following CanMNT switch
It appears all but official now that Marcelo Flores’s future lies with the Canadian men’s national team, and his case to be included in the World Cup squad is already well underway.
The Georgetown, Ont. attacker scored his third goal of the season already for Tigres in their 2-1 win over León. He sits tied for second in the LigaMX Clausura in scoring. After having a difficult team breaking into the Tigres team in the not-so-distant past, this is an excellent development for both player and country.
Tigres, and Flores now begin their Concacaf Champions Cup campaign in Hamilton on Tuesday where they will face Forge FC in round one.
