Form Guide: A giant week for Promise David, Jourde opens PSG account

This past week was another one that was full of goal contributions by Canadians.

Some were historic, such as Promise David opening Union Saint-Gilloise’s Champions League account. Others were big personal milestones, like Tani Oluwaseyi’s first assist for Villarreal.

Here is everything you need to know about this past week for Canadian internationals:

Promise David makes history

He’s been with the club for just over a year, but Promise David has already written his name across the Union Saint-Gilloise record books. After scoring the goal that won them their first Belgian title in 90 years, he scored their first UEFA Champions League goal on Tuesday.

It was also the first goal scored in this year’s Champions League in general. USG went on to win their first match in club history in the competition 3-1 over PSV Eindhoven.

David followed that up this weekend by scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 victory against Genk on Sunday. He and his USG teammates are quickly proving that last year was no fluke.

Jourde opens her account for PSG

Florianne Jourde’s time in the French capital is already off to a great start. After starting Paris Saint-Germain’s first match of the season in central midfield, she got on the scoresheet in its second.

In the 87th minute against Nantes on Saturday, Jourde picked up the ball outside the box and fired a rocket for her first professional goal in a 5-2 victory.

The 20-year-old has yet to be called up by the senior Canadian women’s national team, but that will surely change soon. With CanWNT hosting a European-based camp at the end of October, including a friendly against Switzerland and another against an as-yet-unannounced opponent, it seems like a no-brainer time to get Jourde involved.

Chukwu’s outstanding NCAA form continues

Coming off a summer where she broke the record for most goals by a Canadian for the youth national teams, and made her senior team debut, Anabelle Chukwu has returned to Notre Dame in the NCAA and continued that momentum.

The 18-year-old already has seven goals and an assist in eight matches for the Fighting Irish this season, including scoring this past weekend against Duke. She has now scored in four consecutive NCAA matches for an undefeated (7-1-0) Notre Dame side.

In other action…

Ali Ahmed added another assist to his tally, making it seven on the season for the Whitecaps in a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City.

Theo Bair opened his account for Lausanne in Switzerland with a goal in a 4-1 Swiss Cup victory over Concordia on Sunday.

Jacob Shaffelburg added his third of the campaign for Nashville SC in a 3-2 loss for Orlando City on Saturday. He played the entire second half after coming in off the bench.

Liam Fraser is off to an outstanding start to his time at Reading, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Jamie Knight-Lebel scored his first of the campaign in a 3-2 loss for Swidon Town against Salford City on Saturday.

Tani Oluwaseyi assisted on the match winner for Villarreal in a 2-1 victory over Osasuna as his shot deflected off of Pape Gueye and into the goal. He came off the bench in the 58th minute, while Tajon Buchanan played the entire second half for the Yellow Submarines.

Joel Waterman scored the opener in a huge 3-0 victory for Chicago Fire against Minnesota United. Dayne St. Clair allowed three goals, but did make six saves as well, in the match.

Richie Laryea scored Toronto FC’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw with the Colombus Crew. Jonathan Osorio assisted on the goal.

Niko Sigur started at full-back and played 90 minutes for Hajduk Split in a 2-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Saturday.

Derek Cornelius went the full 90 minutes for Rangers in a 2-0 Scottish League Cup quarter-final victory over Hibernian. Junior Hoilett came off the bench in the 71st minute for Hibs.

Luc de Fougerolles played 90 minutes for Dender in a 3-0 loss to Gent on Friday in Belgium.

Stephen Eustáquio came off the bench in the 58th minute in a 3-0 victory for Porto over Rio Ave on Friday. Porto remain a perfect 6-0-0 at the top of the table in Portugal.

Ismaël Koné was excellent in 68 minutes of action against Inter Milan in a 2-1 loss on Sunday for Sassuolo.

Jonathan David came off the bench in the 70th minute in a 1-1 draw with Verona on Saturday.

Cyle Larin was an unused sub for Feyenoord in their 3-3 draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands.

CanWNT

Cloé Lacasse scored the winner for Utah Royals in a 3-2 victory over Racing Louisville on Sunday. Janine Sonis scored for Louisville in the match on a stunning free-kick effort.
