FORM GUIDE: Aribim Pepple now leads all English league players in 2026 scoring
With the European season coming down to the business end, it was a busy week for Canadian footballers.
There were plenty of big goals, some returns, and an unfortunate injury worth noting as Canadian players start to play in high-stakes club matches with trophies, promotion and relegation on the line.
Here is everything you need to know from the past week:
Pepple leads all English league scorers
By now, Aribim Pepple’s scoring exploits in League One are no secret. But with a brace in a 2-1 win over Port Vale this weekend, he now has 14 goals in league action in the year 2026 alone.
That pushed him into rarified air, as he has now scored more goals than any other player in England’s top four divisions in the year 2026. From the Premier League all the way down to League Two, nobody is begging goals like Pepple right now. He sits one goal ahead of Žan Vipotnik of Swansea (Championship) and David McGoldrick of Barnsley (League One), who are on 13 each.
The goals come at a vital time too, as Plymouth Argyle are pushing for the playoff positions in League One. Currently, they trail sixth-place Stevenage by two points with one final match remaining in their league season against Northampton Town on Saturday, May 2.
Smith the hero as Arsenal lead in UWCL semis
Olivia Smith scored her eighth goal in all competitions for Arsenal on Sunday, and it was among the biggest yet as her 83rd-minute tally delivered the Gunners a 2-1 win over Ashley Lawrence’s OL Lyonnes in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Smith and Arsenal, who are the defending Champions League winners, now look to keep that lead this coming weekend as they head to Lyon for Leg 2 on Saturday (9 a.m. ET on OneSoccer).
Vanessa Gilles and Bayern were also in action, as they drew 1-1 with Barcelona in Munich despite going down to 10 players. Gilles went the full 90. They play leg two in Barcelona on Sunday (10:30 a.m. ET, OneSoccer).
