CF Montréal trade CanMNT international Kamal Miller to Inter Miami in blockbuster swap deal
Inter Miami CF announced Wednesday the club has acquired Canadian international center back and MLS All-Star Kamal Miller and $1.3M in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) from CF Montréal in exchange for midfielder Bryce Duke and winger Ariel Lassiter.
Inter Miami will also retain a sell-on percentage for both Duke and Lassiter, while Montréal will retain a sell-on percentage for Miller.
"Kamal is a standout defender who’s just entering his prime. He’s improved every year of his career and become one of the league’s best players at his position. He has also excelled on the international stage, including at the biggest stage in the World Cup. Additionally, this trade gives us the flexibility to continue making exciting moves in the near future and further strengthen our squad,” Miami sporting director Chris Henderson said in a club-issued statement.
Miller, 25, joins Miami having established a strong career foothold in Montréal, where he made 67 appearances across all competitions, and springboarded himself into a starting role in John Herdman's Canadian national team backline. Miller was a vital part of Canada's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying and tournament campaigns, and has a 2021 Canadian Championship title to his name, too.
"We’re very happy with the arrival of these two players," said CF Montréal vice president Olivier Renard. "We had been discussing with Miami for a while regarding Bryce. He is an intelligent player on the pitch, with good technique and passing quality. He is a modern player who will bring creativity. Ariel is a versatile, left-footed player, with good speed and goal-scoring ability. He can also play as a striker and will help us offensively.
"We wish to thank Kamal for the years spent at CF Montréal. He developed well with us and did good things that helped us achieve good results. We wish him the best of luck for the future of his career."
