Form Guide: Cyle Larin back in the goals, Olivia Smith scores against another English giant

As Canadian women’s national team players returned to their club sides, and the Canadian men played across the globe, it wasn’t quite as productive a week for national team players as perhaps the past few.
But some important members of both sides still had some big performances, as Olivia Smith returned from injury to score for Liverpool, and Cyle Larin scored his first goal of 2025.
Here are the biggest stories for Canadian players this past week:
Cyle Larin back among the goals for Mallorca
For the first time in 2025, Cyle Larin found the back of the net, scoring the winner in a 2-0 Mallorca victory over Real Sociedad.
Following an injury to Mallorca’s leading goalscorer, Vedat Muriqi, last week against Celta Vigo, Larin was handed his first start since Feb. 1 and took full advantage of the opportunity. It was Larin’s sixth La Liga goal of the season.
The win moved Mallorca up into the eighth spot in the Spanish table. It was also an important moment for Larin, who has always been a player who when he finds the back of the net, more goal contributions quickly follow.
Back from injury, Olivia Smith delivers another big goal for Liverpool
Olivia Smith may have missed Canada’s recent B.C. Series against Argentina as a late injury kept her out of camp, but it sure didn’t keep her down for very long.
In the women’s FA Cup semi-final on Saturday against Chelsea, Smith took advantage of a perfect counter-attack in the 21st minute and calmly smashed the ball into the bottom left corner. Smith has now scored against Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, and has 7 goals in 19 matches in her debut season in England.
Unfortunately for Smith and Liverpool, Ashley Lawrence’s Chelsea won the match in dramatic fashion in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time through Aggie Beever-Jones. They now advance to play Jayde Rivière and Simi Awujo’s Manchester United in the 2025 final on May 18 at Wembley.
