Canada Soccer address CanMNT protest, compensation demands

Canada Soccer's Deputy General Secretary Earl Cochrane and President Dr. Nick Bontis address the CanMNT's compensatory demands and field questions from media in Vancouver.

Below, a statement by Canadian Soccer Business:

“Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) was incredibly disappointed to learn through social media that tonight’s game between the Canadian Men’s National Team and Panama was cancelled, but we fully support the Men’s and Women’s National Team players in a call for transparency from Canada Soccer.

In January of 2019, as part of the Canada Soccer strategic plan, CSB entered into an agreement to help grow this sport in Canada at all levels, including guaranteeing sponsorship and broadcast revenue that previously did not exist, and aid in developing and launching a badly needed domestic Tier One professional league, the Canadian Premier League. We have also committed to working with Canada Soccer on the development of an equivalent women’s Tier One domestic league.

We have invested tens of millions of dollars, and will continue to invest millions more, to benefit Canadian Soccer. In partnership with OneSoccer we have produced more content on Canada Soccer and their National Teams than ever before and will continue to do so.

We are proud of our agreement with Canada Soccer and what it means to the Canadian soccer ecosystem. We are prepared to be fully transparent about our agreement which has included an unprecedented amount of revenue to Canada Soccer in the past 18 months in the forms of sponsorship and international media dollars.

Canadian Soccer Business is committed to working to find new and exciting ways to grow the beautiful game in Canada.”
