ANALYSIS+HIGHLIGHTS: CF Montréal vs. Forge FC (May 22, 2024) | TELUS Canadian Championship
Forge FC became the third Canadian Premier League side to eliminate an MLS one from the Canadian Championship, as they defeated CF Montréal 2-1 at Stade Saputo on Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals of the Canadian Championship 3-2 on aggregate.
After a 1-1 draw on May 7th at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Forge knew that they needed to score at least one to advance heading into this game, with CF Montréal leading on away goals.
As a result, they came out strongly to begin this one, with Daniel Parra putting one away in the 14th minute to give them a 2-1 aggregate lead, before Kwasi Poku made it 3-1 on aggregate in the 24th minute, turning the away goals advantage in their favour as the game reached half time.
Because of that, it meant that CF Montréal required three goals in the second half to win the tie, provided that Forge didn't score another one, which left them with a tall task to achieve as they returned to action following a lengthy weather delay.
To their credit, they came out flying in the second half in the chase of those three goals, scoring in the 66th minute to put them within two goals of advancing, but from there, despite a late push, one goal would be all they could muster up, allowing Forge to advance to the semi-finals for a second straight year.
