ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: CanWNT vs. Brazil (Oct. 28, 2023)
It was a case of leave it late for some heartbreak as the Canadian women's national team fell to a 1-0 loss to Brazil in Montreal after Debinha scored with the last kick of the game in the 94th minute, in what was otherwise a closely-contested match-up.
A huge save by Kailen Sheridan coupled with a near-goal by Adriana Leon deflected off Nichelle Prince on the line kept the two teams level through the first half. Sheridan kept up the heroics in the second half, once again denying Brazil to keep the score level, before retiring icon Christine Sinclair finally checked in at the 68th minute to see out the match and look for her 191st goal.
But it was Debinha who celebrated the spoils of the day as her shot deflected off two Canadian defenders before beating Sheridan right at the dying embers of the match, leaving the near-20,000 supporters in Quebec with a bittersweet exit and farewell.
Canada returns to play Brazil once more on Tuesday, Oct. 31 in Halifax, in the second of Sinclair's four farewell tour match-ups. You can catch that game right here on OneSoccer, with full pre- and post-game coverage.
