ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: CanMNT vs. France (June 9, 2024)
The Canadian men's national team turned around their 4-0 loss to the Netherlands with a much more solid showing vs. France in the second of two high-profile friendlies ahead of the 2024 Copa America, picking up a 0-0 draw in Bordeaux.
Playing with an unchanged lineup apart from in goal, where Maxime Crepeau stepped in for Dayne St. Clair, Jesse Marsch's side went toe-to-toe with Les Bleus and didn't look out of place as they contained a near full-strength opponent for both the first and second half.
A lone chance by Liam Millar which smacked the crossbar nearly sent the visiting Voyageurs into a frenzy, while a number of half-chances also saw Canada threaten as they tried to put their stamp on the game. And, apart from a couple of first-half chances which Crepeau dealt with well, and a late miss by Kolo Muani, the French looked largely ineffective in front of goal, too.
The Canadians have now played two high-profile matches and will next play Argentina to open their Copa America campaign, with Peru and Chile to follow. Stay tuned to OneSoccer for our new Copa America news and wrap-up show – more details coming soon.
