A 2-0 defeat to Uruguay wraps up Canada's pre-FIFA World Cup preparations, though encouraging signs of competition means John Herdman's side takes a number of key lessons from the September window.

The Canadian men's national team wrapped up their September pre-FIFA World Cup preparation window with a 2-0 loss to Uruguay, with John Herdman's side putting in a commendable showing despite the scoreline as they work to find tactical cohesion for the winter tournament.

Goals from Nicolas de la Cruz and Darwin Nunez in the first half proved the difference between the two sides, with Stephen Eustaquio, Alphonso Davies and Ismael Kone impressing for Les Rouges over 90 minutes in this friendly bout.

While Canada didn't find the back of the net, it was not for a lack of trying, as the Canadian high press yielded a number of turnovers in dangerous areas – all that was missing was the final touch.

Still, it was an encouraging showing for Canada, who next take on Japan on November 17 before the tournament begins on Nov. 20.

Canada takes on Belgium, Croatia and Morocco in Group F of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
