HIGHLIGHTS: CanWNT vs. Brazil (Game 2/2, Nov. 15, 2022)
The Canadian women's national team ended a 5-game winning streak against Brazil on Tuesday, succumbing to a late go-ahead goal by the home side in front of a raucous crowd of more than 15,000 fans celebrating Brazilian independence day in style.
Brazil's opening goal came just before half-time, as Canada were punished by some excellent forward pressure and a perfect through pass.
But Ashley Lawrence wouldn't let it stand for too long, drawing and then scoring a penalty awarded from a handball in the box around the hour mark to level the match.
However, a last-gasp winner off a corner kick in the 93rd minute would stun the Canadians, as Bev Priestman's side failed to clear the ball in a timely manner, before the Brazilians forced it over the line in a flurry.
To make matters worse, just moments later, Nichelle Prince jumped for a ball and immediately went down with an apparent ankle injury, being stretchered off to end the match on a sour note.
Still, the Canadians can be proud of their end-of-2022 efforts, as Priestman continues to tune up her squad ahead of next summer's FIFA Women's World Cup.
